Peter Caradonna has been a Registered Architect since 1989 and Principal of peterCARADONNArchitecture and Planning since 1996. He provides the firm with a wide variety of knowledge in addition to architecture including civil and structural design, sustainable and green building guidelines, and schematic energy analysis. He taught at New York Institute of Technology where he received his Bachelor of Architecture in 1987.
His interest in architecture was fostered at an early age working in his family’s engineering firm. There he was exposed to all aspects of the development of construction drawings and methods of construction.
Upon graduation from architecture school, Mr. Caradonna went to work for Emery Roth and Sons. As an Assistant Project Manager, he worked on the Hungarian Consulate in New York City, a 55-story condominium complex and a complex of offices and facilities for the DEA.
In 1989, Mr. Caradonna joined the firm of John Ciardullo Assoc. in New York. For ten years, he gained a wide range of experience in large-scale project development and construction. Project responsibilities included construction supervision of Port Regalle Condominium Complex (340 units) in Staten Island and the Renovation of the Algonquin Hotel. Architectural responsibilities include project architect for a 22-story mixed-use high rise at 200 East 87th Street ($25 million) and West Side High School at 102nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue ($23 million).
Since opening the firm in 1996, Mr. Caradonna has contracted work on a varied number of projects including a $180 million 37-story Hotel and 10-acre convention complex in South Portland, Maine. The firm has also been contracted to design a 20 unit-housing complex for employees of the Renaissance Technologies Inc. In addition the firm is working on the Setauket Firehouse, the Laurel Hill School in Setauket, the Seatuck Environmental Center in Islip and the Clarkstown Environmental Center in West Nyack. All four projects are being designed using the US Green Building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System
In addition, Mr. Caradonna lectures and teaches high-performance and green building technology throughout the country. Through his environmental stewardship, Mr. Caradonna has developed a philosophy that seeks to reward economic, social and environmental needs when developing and designing projects. He has guided the firm to membership in good standing with the US Green Building Council since 2000 and was the first LEED Accredited Professional on Long Island. He is currently the founder and chair of the US Green Building Council’s Long Island Chapter. His dedication to transforming the built environment has guided the philosophy and approach to design for the firm.
